The powerful Club for Growth PAC endorsed Bunni Pounds for Texas’ 5th congressional district and Ron Wright for Texas’ 6th congressional district the day after they clinched their respective GOP run-off primary elections.

Pounds, former campaign manager for this district’s retiring congressman, received just 22% of the vote in second place. She’ll face state Representative Lance Gooden, who received 31% in the crowded field. Gooden slammed the CFG earlier this year, calling an endorsement of another candidate as “a shameful attempt to prop up losing candidates.” Trump won this district 63%-34% in 2016.

Wright, a former Arlington City Councilman and current Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector, fell just short of a majority vote necessary to avoid a run-off election. He received 45% of the vote. He’ll face Navy veteran Jake Ellzey, who received 22% of the vote, in the run-off election. Trump won this district 54%-42%. Incumbent Republican Congressman Joe Barton is retiring.

The Club for Growth has also endorsed Chip Roy for Texas’ 21st congressional district, Rick Saccone for Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district, Josh Hawley for U.S. Senate representing Missouri, Kevin Nicholson for Senate in Wisconsin, and Matt Rosendale for Senate in Montana.
